PRAYER LIFE
“Jesus loves you, as you are” – were the words that became turning point in my own life. To understand His Love and accept Him as a “Love of My Life” did not happen in one day. It took years. Have I become perfect in my Spiritual Discipline? No – Not Yet. A long way to go (Not even at passing marks).
Daniel’s prayer life, opening the window towards the temple/ Jerusalem and pray three times a day. Daniel knew the trap was set. He had a choice to make. He could have bypassed one day’s Prayer Time and would have been saved from Lion’s Den. But he chose otherwise.
“Now when Daniel learned that the decree had been published, he went home to his upstairs room where the windows opened toward Jerusalem. Three times a day, he got down on his knees and prayed, giving thanks to his God, just as he had done before.”
Daniel 6:10 NIV
Spiritual discipline is of prime importance. Today, many turn to God as a last option or only when they are in trouble. Whereas Daniel’s Prayer life encourages us to Discipline our Spiritual life in such a way that we must spend time with God when there is time and opportunity. Instead of choosing movies, sleep, other business, sports, friends and even studies, choose God.
Three attributes that we can learn as Jesus’ disciple or as His Church at Sarjapur from Daniel’s Prayer life:
1. Morning Prayer: Seeking the face of God as the first thing in the morning. Thanking God for life, a new day. Submitting plan of the day unto. Seeking His plan of the day for you. I changed my prayer from asking God to walk with me through the day, I ask Him to help me follow Him every day.
2. Afternoon Prayer: In the midst of the most busy and working day, taking out time to pray for those whom you have met or meeting in the day. Seeking Godly Wisdom for the affairs of the day. Time to remember the Word you received in the morning.
3. Night Prayer – Thanking God for the day. Thanking God for the provisions, protection and peace that we could work. Committing night into God’s hands. Asking His presence when our eyes are closed and tired body is resting. Praying for family, children, elders, challenges and provisions.
Can we pray more than three times? Yes. Will God get upset if I pray less than three times. No. But the point is to pray until we get our answers. Jesus taught us how to pray:
““And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly, I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.”
Matthew 6:5-8 NIV
