Good morning, dear family,
Jacob too was disturbed with the dreams of his dreamer boy, Joseph. In the first instance, it does look like an audacity of a child to talk to all the elders in the family that he is superior and strong. But as the passage ends, there is something very important for us to note.
“Soon Joseph had another dream, and again he told his brothers about it. “Listen, I have had another dream,” he said. “The sun, moon, and eleven stars bowed low before me!” This time he told the dream to his father as well as to his brothers, but his father scolded him. “What kind of dream is that?” he asked. “Will your mother and I and your brothers actually come and bow to the ground before you?” But while his brothers were jealous of Joseph, his father wondered what the dreams meant.”
Genesis 37:9-11 NLT
Jacob took heed of the dream that Joseph had shared and pondered upon it. The Bible says that while his brothers were filled with jealousy, Jacob’s heart was trying to connect with the purpose of the One who gives the messages through dreams. When God is speaking to us, either of these will happen:
1. The Heart will Burn : Two disciples were walking down from Jerusalem after the Resurrection, Jesus joined them and began to speak to them. Initially they could not recognise but later they did. “They said to each other, “Didn’t our hearts burn within us as he talked with us on the road and explained the Scriptures to us?”” Luke 24:32 NLT. The question that stands out – “When was the last time The Word of God stirred our hearts and made us feel uneasy?” “When was the last time, we were directly hit at heart by the Word of God?”.
OR
2. The Heart will Blind : The Gospel of God’s love came to everyone, including those who were leaders and authorities. But the worldly things and their own understanding blinded them, that even after listening to the Life giving Words, they Rejected the Messiah and His Word. “Jesus replied, “You have said it. And in the future you will see the Son of Man seated in the place of power at God’s right hand and coming on the clouds of heaven.” Then the high priest tore his clothing to show his horror and said, “Blasphemy! Why do we need other witnesses? You have all heard his blasphemy. What is your verdict?” “Guilty!” they shouted. “He deserves to die!””
Matthew 26:64-66 NLT
Many are living as the enemies of the Cross. They are still Rejecting the Love of God that is demonstrated at the Cross. Where do we stand? Are we living a life that is inspired by the Word of God? Do we take heed like Jacob did when Joseph shared his dream? Or we are like his brothers, who heard the dream and started scheming to kill their own brother?
“So let us stop going over the basic teachings about Christ again and again. Let us go on instead and become mature in our understanding. Surely we don’t need to start again with the fundamental importance of repenting from evil deeds and placing our faith in God. You don’t need further instruction about baptisms, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. And so, God willing, we will move forward to further understanding. For it is impossible to bring back to repentance those who were once enlightened—those who have experienced the good things of heaven and shared in the Holy Spirit, who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the power of the age to come— and who then turn away from God. It is impossible to bring such people back to repentance; by rejecting the Son of God, they themselves are nailing him to the cross once again and holding him up to public shame.”
Hebrews 6:1-6 NLT
Amen 🙏
