Almost 600 years before Jesus was born, God revealed the birth of Messiah to Prophet Isaiah. And also, about the birth of God’s forerunner – John the Baptist. The only comfort that Israel will ever have is in their Messiah – Jesus Christ.
For God’s people, the season was very tough while Isaiah was revealing the Word from God. In the midst of sin and wickedness, death and violence and injustice and chaos, this Word came as a Future of hope and healing. The forerunner would be a sign for the arrival of Messiah.
“A voice of one calling: “In the wilderness prepare the way for the Lord; make straight in the desert a highway for our God. Every valley shall be raised up, every mountain and hill made low; the rough ground shall become level, the rugged places a plain. And the glory of the Lord will be revealed, and all people will see it together. For the mouth of the Lord has spoken.””
Isaiah 40:3-5 NIV
A couple of Lessons:
Prepare a Way – It’s through Wilderness and Desert – where only thorn and thistles were expected, God is making a way to reach to His own. A hope in midst of Hopelessness. Impossible becoming Possible – what a comfort we have in the Lord!
Place of Justice – High places to be brought down and Humble shall be raised. Jesus’ coming would bring Justice and peace among the people. All arrogance, all pride, all injustice and all unfairness would be gone. Peace, Joy, Hope and Love would be the message for all who are oppressed, lonely, orphans and widows.
Power of God’s Revelation – The Glory of God would be revealed and all will see it together. Sinners, criminals, killers, and those who are still in darkness- all will see this Light of the World. The thief on the cross also could receive, Lazarus in the grave also could hear and the centurion who killed Jesus could see – The Glory of God.
Let’s shift our focus from the Worldly things to Heavenly Revelations which is for you and me. John the Baptist came and prepared the way. Jesus came and the gift of Salvation for mankind is already given. You and me are called to proclaim this good news to the world around us. Let’s pray together and point people to Jesus like John did:
“The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!”
John 1:29 NIV
Amen 🙏
