RESTING IN GOD
Today being Ash Wednesday, many in the world begin to observe the Lent Season. They do so to remember the sacrifice of the Saviour, Love of God and Hope of an eternity with God. Though this appears to be a tradition to many, this season definitely brings a discipline in our Spiritual Walk in and towards the Lord, Jesus Christ.
The book of Genesis ends with the death of the patriarch Joseph. But if you read again, you would understand that the book ends with a Prophecy, a Promise and a Place.
“Then Joseph said to his brothers, “I am about to die. But God will surely come to your aid and take you up out of this land to the land He promised on oath to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.” And Joseph made the Israelites swear an oath and said, “God will surely come to your aid, and then you must carry my bones up from this place.””
Genesis 50:24-25 NIV
1. Prophecy – God would come to your aid. Joseph was the top man in the kingdom. He was a very powerful, successful and honoured man in the entire nation. His family was respected and given a land to reside in the country and yet, we see that a rescue to the descendants was pronounced. Joseph was shown how the slavery and redemption would happen to the people of Israel.
2. Promise – Joseph asked his brothers and family of Israel to swear an oath that when God sent a rescue, they must carry his bones to the Promise Land.
3. Place – Joseph did not want to sleep forever in the promise land. But he wanted a place in the Promised Land along with his forefathers.
“And Joseph’s bones, which the Israelites had brought up from Egypt, were buried at Shechem in the tract of land that Jacob bought for a hundred pieces of silver from the sons of Hamor, the father of Shechem. This became the inheritance of Joseph’s descendants.”
Joshua 24:32 NIV
God won’t let His anointed be left behind. Jesus not only came for the New Testament and thereafter living people, but He became the Lord and Saviour of every person whom God created. Whoever believed in God from Genesis accepted Him as Saviour, He would come back to take all of them, living or dead, to be with Him forever and ever.
“My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.”
John 14:2-3 NIV
Amen 🙏
