We live in times where friendship remained in the books and novels. Especially in our corporate world, we do not know whom to trust as a friend? In the midst of this, I really thank God for friendships that became a blessing! God has blessed us with friends who are so committed and a ready-help.
One of the beautiful friendships written in Bible is the friendship of David and Jonathan. Friends who were ready to stand by each other in all circumstances.
“Jonathan said to David, “Whatever you want me to do, I’ll do for you.””
1 Samuel 20:4 NIV
1. Do we have a friend such as Jonathan?
2. Are we a friend to someone like Jonathan?
I am sure you must be that one friend to someone for whom, you are the BEST FRIEND in the world. Thank God.
Besides the worldly friendship we have a BEST FRIEND in Jesus Christ who not only called us His friends but also laid down His life so that we can have eternal life.
“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do what I command. I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.”
John 15:13-15 NIV
A couple of thoughts:
1. What makes us a FRIEND of Jesus Christ? – Obedience to His Commands.
2. What do we learn from this FRIENDSHIP with Jesus Christ? – We are ENTRUSTED with the matter of God’s Work.
Let’s REFLECT on us as a friend of Jesus. And respond as David responded to Jonathan’s True and Sincere Friendship. David valued the friendship with Jonathan all his life.
““Don’t be afraid,” David said to him, “for I will surely show you kindness for the sake of your father Jonathan. I will restore to you all the land that belonged to your grandfather Saul, and you will always eat at my table.””
