1st OCTOBER 2017 – Reflections by SISTER MARINA CHERIAN

In the book of ISAIAH chapter 53 verse 3, it is written that “He was despised and rejected by men, A Man of sorrows and pain and acquainted with grief; And like One from whom men hide their faces He was despised, and we did not appreciate His worth or esteem Him.” When we read the account of Jesus death in Isaiah we tend to think sorry for Him that He had to undergo this pain and rejection. As we read further to verse 4 onwards we understand that;

““But [in fact] He has borne our griefs, And He has carried our sorrows and pains; Yet we [ignorantly] assumed that He was stricken, struck down by God and degraded and humiliated [by Him]. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was crushed for our wickedness [our sin, our injustice, our wrongdoing]; The punishment [required] for our well-being fell on Him, And by His stripes (wounds) we are healed.”

Since Jesus suffered so much for our transgressions, God wants each one of us to Repent. What does it mean to repent? The word pent means the highest place so repent means going back to the highest place. The highest place is Jesus, God Himself. He wants us to turn away from our wicked ways and go back to Him who gave up His very life for each one of us. How do we repent? First we need to acknowledge that we are sinners and that Jesus died for our sins. When we bring our sins to Jesus and ask for forgiveness, He is more than willing to forgive us and cover us in the embrace of His love. When we turn away from our old ways and turn to Jesus, we can go back to the highest place and hence repent. If we believe in heart and confess with our mouth that Jesus is Lord, we can truly be saved.
