FEARLESS LIVING

Sermon by Bro. Thomas Varghese
As the Psalmist said, “I rejoice at your word like one who finds great spoil.” (Psalms 119:162), let us learn to rejoice at the Word of God.
Isaiah 54:14 says “In righteousness you shall be established; you shall be far from oppression, for you shall not fear; and from terror, for it shall not come near you.”
There is this most powerful Government in Heaven that will make our enemies stay far away from us. That’s because God is with us, in us and always goes before us. David said “I will boast only in the Lord; let all who are helpless take heart. Come, let us tell of the Lord ’s greatness; let us exalt his name together. I prayed to the Lord, and he answered me. He freed me from all my fears.” (Psalms 34:2‭-‬4) at a time when he was going through painful stage of life. Even though he was suffering because of men, he chose to praise God in that situation saying he will boast only in the Lord. Just like David let us all learn to answer every fear that knocks our door with faith. Let’s never forget that we are the children of the Lion of the Judah. The very reason we pray to the Lord is to be free from all our fears. “Those who look to him for help will be radiant with joy; no shadow of shame will darken their faces.” (Psalms 34:5). During trouble times its time to look to our Maker because we need His help to be radiant.
God promises to give us His perfect peace that passes all our understanding in the time of our problems or trials. You can know your Maker and His promise only through the Word of God.
5 things that we have the ASSURANCE FROM THE LORD IN HIS WORD are as follows:

  • PROTECTION: The Lord is my light and my salvation— so why should I be afraid? The Lord is my fortress, protecting me from danger, so why should I tremble? (Psalms 27:1)
  • PRESERVATION: “In my desperation I prayed, and the Lord listened; he saved me from all my troubles. For the angel of the Lord is a guard; he surrounds and defends all who fear him.” (Psalm 34:6,7)
  • DELIVERANCE: “I sought the LORD, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears.” (Psalm 34:4)
  • HEALING: “Worship the LORD your God, and his blessing will be on your food and water. I will take away sickness from among you” (Exodus 23:25)
  • SOUND MIND: For God has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. (2 Timothy 1:7)
Don’t calculate the Word of God instead meditate on His Word. Make an intentional effort to rely on God for he is everything. Holy Spirit is our helper. God has promised to help us understand His Word by His Spirit. But He needs our participation. We need to take that first step to choose to read His Word. “Fear thou not; for I am with thee be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.” (Isaiah 41:10)
    God doesn’t want us to stop anywhere instead move on with new challenges every day without fear. FEAR is not from God but from the devil which can be defined as below;
    F – False
    E – Evidence
    A – Appearing
    R – Real

From the above definition itself we can make out that Fear is fake. The truth is that God is the Creator and devil is just one of His creations. So, we need not fear the evil one, but fear of God alone because Bible says that “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.” (Proverbs 1:7). In this modern world everything needs to be updated. If our thoughts are not updated, then our life will be outdated. We can update our thoughts only through the Word of God. “The teaching of your word gives light, so even the simple can understand.” (Psalms 119:130)

What can we do with all our fears?
Bring them all to God and He will make it all burn away. Christ in us is the hope of Glory so we need to learn to depend on the Holy Spirit. Always speak life from the Word of God. (The Bible). “The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” (Proverbs 18:21)
As Solomon said: “That’s the whole story. Here now is my final conclusion: “Fear God and obey his commands, for this is everyone’s duty. God will judge us for everything we do, including every secret thing, whether good or bad.”” (Ecclesiastes 12:13‭-‬14)
The answer to all our fears from God’s word is “FEAR NOT FOR I AM WITH YOU.”
