Mount Zion – City of the Living God.

Today’s passage for meditation is from the book of Hebrews chapter 12 verses 18 to 24 from the Bible which goes like these;

“You have not come to a physical mountain, to a place of flaming fire, darkness, gloom, and whirlwind, as the Israelites did at Mount Sinai. For they heard an awesome trumpet blast and a voice so terrible that they begged God to stop speaking. They staggered back under God’s command: “If even an animal touches the mountain, it must be stoned to death.” Moses himself was so frightened at the sight that he said, “I am terrified and trembling.” No, you have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to countless thousands of angels in a joyful gathering. You have come to the assembly of God’s firstborn children, whose names are written in heaven. You have come to God himself, who is the judge over all things. You have come to the spirits of the righteous ones in heaven who have now been made perfect. You have come to Jesus, the one who mediates the new covenant between God and people, and to the sprinkled blood, which speaks of forgiveness instead of crying out for vengeance like the blood of Abel.”

– Many times, in our walk with God as a child, we forget who we are in Christ Jesus. God wants to remind us our identity, who we are in Christ Jesus? He wants us to remember that we are HIS beloved children. After 40 years of fasting, Devil thought that Jesus would have forgotten His identity and went to tempt him. But Jesus rebuked the devil through the Word of God. God wants us to live by His Word and not by the world. In the last days we can survive only by the Word of God. Walk in the Word of God and never lose your identity just like Jesus.

– In verse 22 we read that none could approach God directly. The people couldn’t even Moses as His face was shining like a sun when he came down from Mount Sinai after meeting God. There was always a huge gap between God and man in the Old Testament days, but now in the New Testament times, we have direct access to God through Jesus Christ. We have not come to Mount Sinai where people were scared to go but to Mount ZION, the city of the Living God. We have come here not on our own strength, but we have been brought here by God’s amazing grace.

– In man-made cities there are only few buildings, but God has brought us to the city of the living God. God’s presence is always with us wherever we go and whatever we do. That is the Mount Zion experience that God wants us to experience even in our day to day activities of life. God has promised us that He will never leave us nor forsake us. We are not at the feet of Mount Sinai like the Old Testament times but through Jesus, God has given us the privilege to be on the top of Mount Zion. God wants to bring in Jerusalem into our homes, our cities, our workplaces and our churches too.

– In the earthly kingdom, nobody can raise a tongue against the king. If the earthly king has so much power, then always remember that we are the children of the king of kings. Our God is a supernatural God. He is so powerful that He can change things around for us. For example, when the Israelites were stuck between the Red Sea and the Egyptian army, God didn’t just make a way through the sea, but God also gave a free aquarium when he made a way by making walls of water through the Red Sea. Even the biggest fishes and whales couldn’t cross the wall because they can never go against the will or orders of God our King.

– If Moses face was shining like the sun after coming down from Mount Sinai, if Moses had more anointing after meeting God then how much more do we, who are washed in the blood of the lamb be anointed. We have an innumerable company of angels in the city of God, so that we are never alone.

– We have only one security in life and that is in Jesus Christ. I am amazed at the way Peter walked on water. We focus on Peter losing the focus and sinking in the water, but we forget the miracle of Peter, a normal human being supernaturally walking on water. No matter what happens in our lives, let us not lose our focus from Jesus who is able to make us walk through every difficulty of our lives.

– Our God is also a God of corrections and discipline. Discipline is always painful when we go through it but as we submit ourselves and our lives to God just as Jesus did, He is able to rescue us and help us dwell on Mount Zion. As written in Hebrews chapter 5 verse 7 “While Jesus was here on earth, he offered prayers and pleadings, with a loud cry and tears, to the one who could rescue him from death. And God heard his prayers because of his deep reverence for God.” Just as God heard the cries of Jesus when He was on this earth, He hears our cries for help too.

– As we conclude, let me again remind you that God has given each one of the privilege to dwell on the city of the living God, on Mount Zion where there is no darkness or gloom but always love, joy and peace.
