Living a life of purity and holiness is possible because Jesus Christ himself set an example by living a pure and holy life while here on Earth. We live in a corrupt and compromising world but that does not give us an excuse to lead a life of impurity. God’s desire for us that we lead and live a holy life.
“I am the Lord your God; consecrate yourselves and be holy, because I am holy.…….
Leviticus 11:44a NIV
Ruth – after knowing the Lord through the life of Naomi, chose to follow the Lord with all her heart and soul.
“But Ruth replied, “Don’t urge me to leave you or to turn back from you. Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God. Where you die I will die, and there I will be buried. May the Lord deal with me, be it ever so severely, if even death separates you and me.””
Ruth 1:16-17 NIV
A couple of pointers:
1. Where you go, I will go – Ruth chose FELLOWSHIP with God’s people.
2. Where you stay, I will stay – she chose to DWELL in a community of God’s people.
3. Your people will be my people – she chose to be IDENTIFIED as a child of God
4. Your God my God – she chose to WORSHIP the true and the living God
5. Where you die, I will die – she made a life-long COMMITMENT .
Ruth was born in an enemy camp – Moab. She was not a part of God’s people – the nation of Israel. She married Naomi’s son and became a part of the Israelite family. But when she heard about God, the living and mighty God, she chose to follow Him and Him alone. She was blessed for her commitment to God. She became part of God’s plan and David was born through her line – great grandmother of King David – and eventually, Jesus Christ was born in her line too.
Today, you may have any reference to start, but if you have come to the Cross and the Word of God has convicted you as a sinner, you have a choice to make. You can reject the gift of life and continue in sin or, you can choose to be holy as God, your Saviour, is Holy. Receive the grace and reject the life of sin.
““Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness, no one will see the Lord. See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many.”
Hebrews 12:14-15 NIV
Amen 🙏
